Bring back the Pinky Ring!

I’m starting a campaign, please sign my petition below….(there’s no petition)

I notice that most of the entertainment greats from “back in the day”, wore pinky rings. The Chairman of the Board along with his Rat Pack crooners seemed to rarely photograph without their pinkies adorned. I noticed it in Jersey Boys and in the recently screened,
Get on Up! The James Brown Story

The power was/is in the pinky ring, I’m

James Brown wore a pinky ring. Can you see it? Re: photo of the movie screen above

Don’t you love a good biopic?! I do. I learn so much more about an entertainer than I knew before.

The Godfather of Soooouul!! Whachmey!! I had a good time watching Get on Up! I was on the scene with my gangstah lean and even though it’s a man’s film, it would be nothin…nothin without an awesome audience or review.

Who is Chadwick Boseman?! If you don’t know or didn’t know like I didn’t, now I do and you will too. This handsome young man stop being Chadwick trying to portray James Brown but embodied the Godfather of soul himself. He channeled his inner JB! I was more captivated by his performance than the overall film. It’s a tad bit long and jumps around but I still enjoyed watching and learning about the life of James Brown.

Jill Scott did her thang as Mrs. Deidra “Dee Dee” Brown. Hey Jill gurl! Call me.

It’s the Godfather of Soul and since you can’t stop the Funk, it definitely deserves the big screen. Please please please plan to see it this weekend! I get the feelin’ you’ll like it! (I couldn’t help it)

Fifty Shades of Grey

Get out of my head Yonce! When you and the hubby were On the Run in Chicago, you did not stop by my place. I was only 5 minutes away, gurl.

At the end of this video, Yonce’s voice has haunted me. I know she doesn’t say this but I keep hearing uh oh uh oh you’re in trouble. So I’m wondering what I’ve done that has my guilty conscious using Beyoncé to taunt me?

Oh now I remember….

I’m probably in the minority when it comes to Fifty Shades of Grey. I attempted to read the book when it first appeared a few years ago but being a Zane fan, I found the first 2 sample chapters simple in comparison. I was never interested again even when fans of the trilogy tried to convince me to read it. I couldn’t do it.

However, I was intrigued when the trailer hit. Let’s see if the movie will be better than my sample read. At first look, it’s just as simple and a bit boring. I wasn’t impressed.

But Yonce kept taunting me so I watched it a few more times. I get it!

This simple looking trailer with its simple looking leading stars reminds me of a really good bottle of Reisling. It’s light, smooth and easy. By the time you’re done, you don’t realize how intoxicated you are until you try to walk.

Fifty Shades of a Grey in all it’s simplicity may seem underwhelming at first but I’m guessing that viewers won’t realize how tantalized they are until their trying to exit the theater.

We shall see….

Don’t listen to my sister!

The thing about my sister and I, we always have completely different versions of the same event. She say potato, I say french fries with ketchup please.

She thinks my obsession with “Rewards” programs is borderline crazy….I say, I like earning points, getting perks and discounts for things I do everyday. Show me the rewards and I’m a loyal customer!

I get a warm fuzzy feeling at the thought of earning an extra 30 points with my DD rewards app when I make a purchase after 2pm. I’m only a few points away from a FREE French Vanilla Iced Coffee.

I enjoyed quite a few hazel nut frappuccinos with caramel/hazel drizzle and my son, vanilla bean frapp with extra caramel drizzle, to become GOLD member at Starbucks. FREE drink on my birthday!

My ICON card thrills me with every discount movie and FREE refill.

And my AMC Stubs card, well, I’ve got a bonus seductively waiting, wanting me to cash it in for a FREE combo. Yes!

So of course my rewards senses started to tingle when I heard I could earn rewards and discounts on traveling. Stopped me in my tracks!!

Say what now?! How can this be true? I can google and get a good travel deal, right? Let me be honest, it’s makes my brain hurt when I try to put a vacation package together that’s affordable for my family and I. It can be overwhelming. I studied Hospitality Management so I understand the Travel & Hospitality Industry but limited in navigating the perks.

Bags are Packed!!!

Soooo, as you know, I’m an Entertainment Enthusiast! Movies, concerts, plays etc. If I could make a living being a social butterfly, I would! Not to mention TRAVELING!! Yes! Yes!

Sadly, my last amazing trip was my HS reunion in Miami 2 years ago. I am now in desperate need of sandy beaches, “if you like Piña Coladas & getting caught in the rain” playing in the background and something fruity with umbrellas sticking out….oh cabana man!

Shout out to Hyde Park Career Academy class of 87! HPCA!! HUGS!

I’m always looking for extra ways to support my family besides my full time work as a Medical Coder, so why not add an extra stream of income doing something I enjoy, right?!

My wish has come true!

This is the link to my  TRAVEL DREAM!

White sandy beaches here I come!!!!

I’m hoping my first steps toward financial freedom will lead to many “Firsts”!

First Family trip with my Kids
First Red Carpet Premiere in L.A.
First Broadway play in New York
First Passport Stamp
First visit to my daughter in Texas

Create your own firsts!!!

Curse the movie screening gods that made me choose Hercules in 3D at IMAX over Fluffy. Sorry Fluffy, you’re cute but it’s The Rock!

I was so distracted at work. If you asked me what I did today, I couldn’t tell you. I was secretly anticipating Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Hercules. Hey Dwayne! How you doin’? (Wendy William’s voice)

{insert Greek Mythology lesson here}
Go ahead, I can wait…..

How many times can Hercules be done?? I’ve seen countless versions. I was a huge fan of the TV series, Hercules: The Legendary Journey with Kevin Sorbo. Nonetheless, it never gets old. I always seem to watch whatever new take on this old myth the writing powers that be come up with. Ooooo…what’s going to happen next? Is he really the son of Zeus?
I need to know….these things…..but
I already know….these things.

Two thousand fourteen and I….AM…..HERCULES!!!! that’s it…
No really, that’s all. It’s only an hour and a half which practically makes it a Disney movie minus the intense violence of course. They were smart to only screen it the day before it hits the box office, REAL critics would have had a field day too far in advance. However, if you don’t take your mythology too seriously, it’s action, it’s fun entertainment and The Rock wants you to smell what he’s cooking as an emerging action hero.

Oh Hercules, I so wanted you to be worth the big screen but the movie gods have betrayed you!
Shall you have your revenge at the box office?!?!?!
U may claim victory!
If you fail, have heart, the Redbox gods have looked favorably upon you!

screening July 24, 2014, Navy Pier IMAX

***Happy Birthday to my oldest daughter and sister!!!***

If you’re anything like me, you see Scarlett Johansson, hear Morgan Freeman’s voice and you’re 100% excited to see this movie! Weellllll………

My daughter moved to Texas after she graduated but I’m so glad she’s home to visit this week. She hadn’t even landed or put feet on the ground before I was rushing her and her friends to this screening. It was her first….awww. We had less than a few minutes but thankfully we made it in time. What does all this have to do with this review? Absolutely nothing, just wanted to share.

So Lucy…..

Scarlett Johansson is Lucy and Morgan Freeman is Professor Norman. There are some bad guys, good guys and things that fly in the air, however, I’m not even sure how to explain this movie without telling every single little detail but basically what you’ve seen in the trailer is pretty much what you get. You ever see those psychoanalytical, get inside your head, shows where they present images to the patient? They write, then ask….how do these images make you feel? Lucy is that experience. I left feeling as if I should have unlocked some childhood memory like blaming my parents for not getting me a pink bicycle when I was five. It’s the reason I’m not living up to my potential as a human being, less than 10%….ouch!

Now personally, I would say it’s not worth the big screen but totally worth a Redbox rental but of course it will no doubt be a contender at the box office this weekend!

screening July 22, ICON theaters
